Spotlight on: Indoor Climbing Adventure

This summer, the veritable vertical playground that is Indoor Climbing Adventure is coming to its fifth and final Village, Sherwood Forest. To celebrate, here’s the low-down on one of our most popular indoor activities

Where: Whinfell Forest, Elveden Forest, Woburn Forest and Longleat Forest. Arriving at Sherwood Forest this summer (date to be confirmed).

Who: Anyone! There are some height and weight restrictions, but Indoor Climbing Adventure is for young and old, novice and experienced climbers alike.

Appearance: Not like any other climbing walls you’ve seen. This is indoor climbing with a difference – depending on which Village you visit, you could be conquering a chess board, scaling snakes and ladders or ascending in outer space.

There’s also a transparent racing wall, where you can strap in against a friend or family member to see who makes it to the top first.

What should I wear: Sturdy footwear (trainers are fine), and clothes you can move easily in, for when you have to reeeaaach for that last hand hold…

What’s involved: One of our friendly instructors will fit you with a harness and show you the ropes, so to speak. Then it’s all up to you – choose which walls you want to tackle and away you go.

How hard is it? The walls vary in terms of how high and how challenging they are. Our staff can advise you depending on your age and skill, and whether you want to test yourself or try something a little gentler.

What happens when I get to the top? You let go! No, really… Our rope system will gently float you back down to the ground with barely a bump.

I’m a bit nervous… Don’t be! Our instructors are there to help you the whole way and you can come down at any time. The ropes are set up to hold the weight of a large, full-grown man and the harnesses are all checked by our team.

Ok, you’ve convinced me! Where do I sign up? If you already have a break in the diary, you can book online. You can also try to book once you’ve arrived, but this is a very popular activity and does fill up fast, so we’d always advise doing it ahead of time.

Do say: To infinity, and beyond!

Don’t say: That’s not flying, that’s falling with style…
