Scotland Center Parcs expected to open in 2029 as work begins on £450m site

Work is officially underway at the new £450 million Center Parcs site in Scotland.

First Minister John Swinney planted the first of hundreds of thousands of trees at Center Parcs’s Scottish Borders village on 18 March.

The new village between Hawick and Selkirk is expected to create around 1,200 jobs and contribute £75 million annually to the local economy.

Planning permission for the development was granted by the Scottish Borders Council in December over approximately 1,000 acres of land.

Center Parcs first holiday village in Scotland clears final planning hurdle

 Work is finally set to get underway on Center Parcs first holiday village in Scotland.

The leisure operator was granted planning permission for the 700-lodge development, just off the A7 north of Hawick, at the end of last year.

But officials revealed they wouldn't commit to the £450 million investment without a byelaw restricting access over the main part of the site.

They stressed having a secure and enclosed site is needed for safety and operational reasons.

And, tonight (Monday), Scottish Borders Council has confirmed its request to restrict access at Huntlaw and Muirfield Farm, Hassendean, has been granted.

The byelaw will officially come into force in April.

A local authority spokesperson said: "This marks a key step in regulating land access for the proposed Center Parcs holiday village."

Center Parcs donates over 1,000 bicycles to Colchester charity

 A charity will send more than 1,000 bikes to Africa after a holiday park donated its retired bicycles.

Re-Cycle, based in Colchester, gives unwanted bikes a new lease of life by donating them to communities in need overseas.

These bicycles are distributed across rural communities, providing affordable and sustainable transport options.

Center Parcs has donated over 1,000 retired bikes to the charity, some of which have already been shipped off to The Gambia.

Center Parcs Longford Forest lodge ambitious plans for new 'Forest Glider' attraction

 Engineering team behind the new zipline activity proposed for Longford were also involved in iconic projects such as the London Eye.

Center Parcs Longford Forest have filed a planning application with Longford County Council for the installation of a tower platform for a new aerial zipline attraction at their forest resort in Ballymahon.

Also included in the application for planning permission is a single-storey timber canopy for kit-on/kit-off facilities, and associated ancillary site works. 

The new zipline, which, according to Center Parcs' application will be called ‘Forest Glider’, will be created by ZipZag Rides, a British engineering consultancy firm whose team of engineers specialise in the design, installation, and maintenance of bespoke aerial amusement rides and who were also involved in a number of high profile projects including the famous London Eye.

UK pension funds eye stake in £4.5bn holiday giant Center Parcs

 Public sector retirement schemes in Edinburgh, London and Manchester are in talks about taking a big stake in one of Britain's best-known leisure operators, Sky News learns.

Some of Britain's biggest public sector pension schemes are in talks to take a stake in Center Parcs as its Canadian owner finalises a recapitalisation of the holiday parks giant.

Sky News has learnt that bodies including the Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF), the London-based Local Pension Partnership (LPPI) and the Edinburgh-based Lothian Pension Scheme are among those which have been in negotiations about buying between 15% and 20% of the company.

Center Parcs: Investigation underway following blaze

AN INVESTIGATION is underway following a blaze at Cumbria's Center Parcs site over the Christmas period, the company has confirmed.

Center Parcs has confirmed that the blaze took place on Christmas Eve, causing significant damage to one of its holiday lodges in Whinfell Forest, near Penrith.

A spokesperson for Center Parcs told the News and Star: "On Christmas Eve we received reports of a fire close to one of the lodges at Center Parcs, Whinfell Forest. 

"Our team responded immediately, calling the fire service and evacuating the guests and those in surrounding lodges."

The spokesperson said that the fire was "brought under control quickly" by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and no guests were injured.

Horror at UK Center Parcs as 'multiple guests injured' on damaged water slide

A number of people have been treated for injuries after riding a damaged water slide at Center Parcs. The Wild Water Rapids had reportedly “sustained some damage” leading to the incident at the Sherwood Forest site, in Nottingham. The rapids in the Subtropical Swimming Paradise area were shut down for an investigation after on-site medics treated a “small number” of people for injuries.

It is understood the popular water attraction was re-opened on Tuesday (23 December) to guests after a thorough check. A spokesperson said: “A small section of the Wild Water Rapids at Sherwood Forest sustained some damage yesterday and was closed as a precaution, following further investigation.

Center Parcs granted planning permission for a new village in the UK - with 700 lodges, a water park and state-of-the-art spa

 Center Parcs has been granted planning permission for a new village, set to be the company's seventh in the UK and Ireland.

The new village – to be named Center Parcs Scottish Borders – will be located in the south of Scotland between the towns of Hawick and Selkirk.

Center Parcs aims for work at the site to begin in spring 2026 - and it is hoped the new village will open in summer 2029.

Center Parcs strengthens marketing leadership with three senior hires

Center Parcs has completed an overhaul of its marketing leadership team with three senior appointments, as the business ramps up investment in brand, digital and guest experience.

Center Parcs has appointed three senior marketing leaders as it looks to “elevate” the brand and drive growth.

The hires – Sarah Vickery, Stuart O’Neill and Gillian Blair – complete the company’s newly established senior marketing leadership team. Each will take up a new role leading different capabilities, namely in the brand’s customer experience, creative and media planning.

Their appointments follow the arrival of Sara Holt in March as the organisation’s first CMO, joining from Merlin Entertainments UK and Europe.

Blackstone 'rejects' £2bn Center Parcs bid with plans to float on stock market

 Blackstone – the private equity giant which owns Center Parcs – is believed to have rejected a joint £2bn (€2.5bn, $3.1bn) bid from BC Partners and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) for the chain of leisure resorts.

Sky News is reporting that Blackstone rebuffed the bid, saying the offer undervalued the leisure operator.

Following the rejection, Blackstone is thought to be formally planning to float the company on the stock market in 2015, or put Center Parcs up for a formal auction.

Blackstone has owned Center Parcs since 2006 and has reported a 99 per cent occupancy for its newest site in Woburn Forest, Bedfordshire, since opening and is in talks with tourism authorities in Ireland over the construction of a resort there.

£2million investment in winter wonderland this Christmas

 The site in Suffolk has invested £2million to transform its Winter Wonderland, and its opening next month.


Elveden Forest has upgraded certain areas of the park for Christmas, and has added its Woodland Workshop.

From November 7, families will get the chance to meet Santa and his elves who are hard at work before the big day.

You can also get a glimpse of Santa while enjoying brunch at Huck’s, or join the team for a festive dance along to Christmas tunes at Santa’s Greetings.

The wooden chalet will have a snow-capped roof and be wrapped in pine decorations next to a huge Christmas tree.

Center Parcs introduces big new change to check in times – and not everyone is happy

 CENTER Parcs has announced a big change to its check in times at the holiday park, but not everyone is convinced.


The holiday giant is changing its guest arrival times by introducing staggered entry times for different types of lodges to reduce traffic on the site. 

Centre Parcs hopes the changes will also improve parking availability outside cottages during the busy check in days, which are Fridays and Mondays.

Currently, most guests drive to their lodges around 4pm on the first day of their stay and then move their cars back to the site’s car park once they’ve unpacked, which can cause queues around the village.

But from September 29, the entry times will be more varied to avoid the 4pm rush.

Center Parcs launches its first-ever treetop activity park offering thrills for all the family

Center Parcs has launched its new Adventure Nets treetop experience at Longleat Forest in Wiltshire. The attraction opened on Tuesday, perfectly timed for the start of the school summer holidays.

The experience features suspended nets positioned seven metres above ground, connecting a series of treehouses within the redwood canopy.

Families can navigate through the aerial course, which combines outdoor adventure with interactive technology.

The attraction is exclusively available at Center Parcs and represents the company's first venture into this type of treetop adventure experience for guests visiting the Wiltshire location.

Guests must navigate through tunnels and rope bridges whilst bouncing on trampolines integrated into the course structure.

The hour-long sessions incorporate TAG Active technology, allowing participants to wear wristbands that interact with beacons positioned throughout the experience.

 Center Parcs has unveiled a flythrough video of its proposed new holiday village in the Scottish Borders, offering the public a first look at what could become its first location in Scotland.

The video takes viewers on a virtual tour of the site, featuring the arrivals road, waterside lodges, apartments, lochs, Aqua Sana Forest Spa, Subtropical Swimming Paradise, Sports Plaza, and the planned Nature and Heritage Centre.

Center Parcs sues 24 insurance businesses over fire damage

Center Parcs has launched a High Court compensation action following its insurers refusal to meet a claim for fire damage sustained to a Suffolk holiday village.

The company is suing 24 insurance companies or syndicates, including Axa Corporate Solutions, Cornhill Insurance plc and Wellington Underwriting. Center Parcs alleges that these businesses have wrongly refused to meet its claim.

In a writ issued at London’s High Court and just made publicly available, Center Parcs says that its holiday village at Elveden Forest in Brandon, Suffolk, was badly damaged after fire broke out on 4 April. The company also alleges that it suffered considerable business interruption losses.

Neverland wins Center Parcs creative account

Center Parcs has picked Neverland to take on its creative account following a three-way competitive pitch.

The process was handled by Ingenuity+ and Neverland will be responsible for brand strategy and creative campaigns. 

Sara Holt, chief marketing officer at Center Parcs, said: “Center Parcs is an incredible business with deep guest loyalty, unrivalled occupancy and an amazing story to tell. It needs a special partner. 

"From the moment we met Josh [Harris, chief executive at Neverland], Jon [Forsyth, co-founder] and Simon [Massey, co-founder] they demonstrated a love of our brand that only comes from being a guest who has made lifetime family memories on our villages. They have used this to show us an enticing future. We are so excited to roll this out together to our guests and colleagues.”

Opening date for Scotland's first Center Parcs announced

 THE opening date for the first Center Parcs site in Scotland has been announced.

The new holiday village could open in the Scottish Borders in 2029, bosses have said.

The planned site, three miles north of Hawick, Roxburghshire, will house 700 lodges, a "subtropical swimming paradise" and an Aqua Sana Forest Spa.

At a public consultation event held on Thursday an updated version of the village masterplan was presented to local residents.

This event marked the third of four community consultation events as part of the ongoing planning process.

Center Parcs shares more details of proposed Borders plan

The company shared the updated village masterplan at a public consultation event today (Thursday, April 24), at Selkirk Rugby Club.

This was the third of four statutory community consultation events in the ongoing planning process.


The updated masterplan includes technical refinements and feedback from earlier consultations, ensuring the proposals align with the views and aspirations of the local community.

Key features include new visuals and detailed designs for the village centre, showcasing the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, the Aqua Sana Forest Spa, and a selection of family-friendly retail and dining options, including the Pancake House.
