Center Parcs introduces big new change to check in times – and not everyone is happy

CENTER Parcs has announced a big change to its check in times at the holiday park, but not everyone is convinced.

The holiday giant is changing its guest arrival times by introducing staggered entry times for different types of lodges to reduce traffic on the site.

Centre Parcs hopes the changes will also improve parking availability outside cottages during the busy check in days, which are Fridays and Mondays.

Currently, most guests drive to their lodges around 4pm on the first day of their stay and then move their cars back to the site’s car park once they’ve unpacked, which can cause queues around the village.

But from September 29, the entry times will be more varied to avoid the 4pm rush.

The plan also prioritises heritage and environmental significance, with additions like wetlands, meadows, and lochs, as well as improved screening to protect neighbouring properties and natural beauty (Picture: Center Parcs Scotland)

Center Parcs launches its first-ever treetop activity park offering thrills for all the family

Center Parcs has launched its new Adventure Nets treetop experience at Longleat Forest in Wiltshire. The attraction opened on Tuesday, perfectly timed for the start of the school summer holidays.

The experience features suspended nets positioned seven metres above ground, connecting a series of treehouses within the redwood canopy.

Families can navigate through the aerial course, which combines outdoor adventure with interactive technology.

The attraction is exclusively available at Center Parcs and represents the company's first venture into this type of treetop adventure experience for guests visiting the Wiltshire location.

Guests must navigate through tunnels and rope bridges whilst bouncing on trampolines integrated into the course structure.

The hour-long sessions incorporate TAG Active technology, allowing participants to wear wristbands that interact with beacons positioned throughout the experience.

Center Parcs sues 24 insurance businesses over fire damage

Center Parcs has launched a High Court compensation action following its insurers refusal to meet a claim for fire damage sustained to a Suffolk holiday village.

The company is suing 24 insurance companies or syndicates, including Axa Corporate Solutions, Cornhill Insurance plc and Wellington Underwriting. Center Parcs alleges that these businesses have wrongly refused to meet its claim.

In a writ issued at London’s High Court and just made publicly available, Center Parcs says that its holiday village at Elveden Forest in Brandon, Suffolk, was badly damaged after fire broke out on 4 April. The company also alleges that it suffered considerable business interruption losses.

New details of Center Parcs holiday village just 60 miles from Newcastle

The holiday giant is developing a £400m proposal for its first Scottish site.

Center Parcs has revealed more about plans for its new site that will be an hour and half away from Newcastle.

The new site, near Hawick in the Scottish Borders, will be around 60 miles north-west of Newcastle and 55 miles south of Edinburgh. The company has unveiled a new zoning plan which marks the first step in bringing the village to life.

Center Parcs say the zoning plan is not a final document and will be subject to change as technical work progresses and consultee feedback is received in the coming months. Those insights will play a crucial role in shaping the eventual masterplan which will form part of the planning application when it is submitted later this year.

First look at two 'exciting' new attractions at Sherwood Forest site

New woodcraft workshops and obstacle courses have come to Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest. The holiday village in Nottinghamshire has introduced two new family-friendly activities for guests to participate in during their stay.

This includes the 'TAG Challenge Arena' - a room full of obstacles in which players are armed with a wristband and attempt to finish the course within a certain timeframe. The game has both easy-to-reach and difficult obstacles aimed at families with ranging abilities.

There is also a new woodcraft workshop where guests are invited to choose a piece of handmade wood and turn it into wall art. Lee Carpenter, director of leisure, said: "We’re always looking to innovate and evolve the activities and experiences across our villages, where possible, and there was a huge opportunity to bring the latest innovations and technologies to Center Parcs – starting with Sherwood Forest and Woburn Forest.

Scottish Borders Center Parcs plans a 'major step forward'

PLANS to open the first Center Parcs holiday village in Scotland have taken "a major step forward".

Details of the plans for the holiday village just north of Hawick were announced at Center Parcs’ first community event held at Hawick Rugby Football Club this week.

The company has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) to Scottish Borders Council, with a full planning application expected this summer.

The PoAN is the first stage in the statutory process. It is not a planning application but a notice to the council advising how Center Parcs intends to engage with the community about its proposal.

This allows the community to put their views directly to the developer before a planning application is submitted.

Its vision for the site, which is earmarked for between Selkirk and Hawick, is to create a new woodland and lochs which will "significantly increase biodiversity".

The new holiday village would have up to 700 lodges, a spa, an indoor water park, indoor and outdoor leisure and sports facilities, as well as a mixture of retail and restaurant facilities, bars, coffee shops and a local heritage centre.

Map confirms where new £400,000,000 Center Parcs will open in UK

Map confirms where new £400,000,000 Center Parcs will open in UK

Where is the new Centre Parcs?

The first ever in Scotland, the new park will be in the Scottish Borders, north of Hawick and south of Selkirk, and around 90 minutes from Edinburgh and Newcastle, and two hours from Glasgow. The village, which they say ‘represents an investment of £350m-£400m’ will have 700 lodges, an Aqua Sana Forest Spa and the beloved Subtropical Swimming Paradise (Picture: Metro Graphics).

At full capacity, the site will be able to welcome 3,500 guests per break. Center Parcs say that the new site was needed as their ‘existing villages are pretty much full all year round and we feel there is strong demand for another Center Parcs in the UK'

Center Parcs in Scotland

They also added that picking a site in Scotland was no coincidence: ‘We have a lot of Scottish families who visit Center Parcs already and this is a great opportunity to keep their economic impact in Scotland'

Center Parcs, located in Sherwood Forest, scooped two awards at the British Travel Awards 2024 on Tuesday night (19 November) – gold for Best Company for UK Family Holidays and silver for Best Company for UK Short Breaks.

The awards, which were held at Battersea Evolution in London, were attended by prestigious travel companies and recognised the best small, medium and large businesses within the sector through public consumer vote.

“As a business we are committed to helping families come together and create their own memorable family experiences, on a short break with us.
