Dozens of Center Parcs lodges remain closed due to Storm Éowyn

Some lodges were damaged by falling trees and occupancy has been reduced to 85 per cent ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend

Dozens of lodges at Center Parcs remain closed in the wake of Storm Éowyn and a number of activities have been impacted.

The holiday park in Co Longford re-opened on Tuesday morning after being forced to close for four days.

However, the forest resort is still picking up the pieces after being battered by high winds on Friday and has warned that most of the outdoor facilities remain closed.

Some of the lodges were damaged by falling trees and occupancy has been reduced to 85 per cent ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend.

“Most outdoor activities have been impacted by the storm and are still out of action,” a spokeswoman told The Irish Times.

“All indoor activities including the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, the restaurants, shops and Aqua Sana spa are open as usual.”

Center Parcs in Longford gets green light for 200 new lodges and extension to swimming and spa

Center Parcs has secured planning permission for an €100m expansion of its holiday village at Longford Forest which includes almost 200 new lodges.

An Bord Pleanála rejected an appeal by a number of parties including an environmental group against plans by the UK-based operator of leisure resorts for a major expansion of accommodation and leisure facilities at its Irish centre.

The board has upheld last year’s decision by Longford County Council to approve the construction of 198 new lodges across three zones at its Longford Forest resort outside Ballymahon, Co Longford.

The expansion of the 160-hectare holiday village also includes external saunas and pods, a new lakeside restaurant and coffee shop as well as an extension of several existing restaurants and additional staff facilities.

Other elements of the plans include an extension to the Subtropical Swimming Paradise and Aqua Sana spa with a new treetop sauna and additional treatment rooms.

Center Parcs Longford Forest Holiday Resort Experienced A Net Loss Of €13.8m During The Year That Ended April 23, 2020

Accounts for Center Parcs Longford Forest have revealed that the Co. Longford holiday resort experienced a net loss of €13.8 million during the year that ended on April 23, 2020, despite generating revenues of €33.6 million.

As reported by The Irish Times, the resort did not begin trading until July 29, 2019, and it shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 13, 2020, so the above statistics only cover 33 weeks of normal trading during the twelve month period.

Cancellation And Rolling Operating Costs

Following the onset of the pandemic, the resort had to pay out €7.3 million in customer refunds for cancellations, and its rolling operating costs while closed reportedly appear to run at €1 million per month.

Center Parcs Longford (Ierland) sluit tot 30 oktober

CENTER PARCS IRELAND has announced it is closing its Longford venue until 30 October at the earliest in light of the new Level 3 restrictions.

It emerged last night that the whole nation is to go to Level 3 – meaning that people are not allowed to travel outside their county.

As the majority of Center Parcs custom is coming from people outside Longford, the decision was made to shut the venue.

A statement from the company apologised to all those who had plans to visit in the coming weeks.

“We know that this will be disappointing news but given the advice for people to remain within their county, we do not feel it would be practical or appropriate to remain open. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff is our absolute priority and we feel that this decision supports the government’s guidelines,” it read.

Center Parcs has today announced it will reopen its UK villages from Monday 13 July 2020.

The announcement comes after all five villages closed their doors on Friday 20 March in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

In line with government guidance, there will be social distancing and new safety measures in place to protect the families who visit each week and the company’s 8,500 employees.

Center Parcs’ CEO, Martin Dalby, said: “Although it was disappointing to have to close our villages, it was the right thing to do to keep our guests and staff safe. The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant effect on the whole country and we always said we would only reopen once we were 100% satisfied it was safe to do so. We’ve had our teams working around the clock to review everything we do, right down to the smallest detail, and we‘re now ready to open our doors again.

“We know that a lot of families were looking forward to Center Parcs breaks and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the forest. Those families who have visited us before will notice some changes to the way we’re doing things, but the essence of a Center Parcs break will remain the same, offering a fantastic short break experience with plenty of space within our 400 acres of natural woodland.”

The new measures to keep guests and staff safe include:
  • Reduced numbers of guests on each break
  • Changes to some activities to maintain social distancing
  • An enhanced cleaning regime for accommodation and central areas
  • Changes to arrival and departure times to allow more time for enhanced cleaning
  • Cashless payment only across the villages
  • Online-only bookings and payment for activities
  • New takeaway service offering contactless delivery to lodges
  • Initially, in line with government guidance, the villages will open without the Subtropical Swimming Paradise and Aqua Sana Spa.

CEO Martin Dalby said: “We know how disappointing it will be for some families that the Subtropical Swimming Paradise isn’t open during their break. We have been planning the changes needed to maintain social distancing and we look forward to reopening these facilities as soon as we are able to do so. However, we know that so many families have been looking forward to their breaks and we are so pleased to be open for the summer.”

Center Parcs has also introduced a ‘book with confidence’ guarantee which allows guests to cancel their break up to six days prior to arrival and still receive a full refund. The company has also acknowledged that, with some changes to facilities, some guests may prefer to reschedule their break or cancel and receive a full refund and is providing full flexibility with no charges.

During the four-month closure period, the majority of the company’s 8,500 employees have been supported by the Government’s Job Retention Scheme, and work is now ongoing to bring employees back to work and deliver a comprehensive training programme around new ways of working and safety procedures.

Martin Dalby said: “The ongoing maintenance of our villages and how wonderful they are looking is a real testament to the commitment and adaptability of the teams. Closure has been a huge undertaking and something of this scale has never been done in the history of our business. We’ve all been impressed by the way people have quickly got used to new ways of working and I know the whole Center Parcs family are so excited to welcome our guests back to the forest!”

Center Parcs’ village in Ireland, Longford Forest, will also reopen on Monday 13 July.

Center Parcs owner will provide ‘interim assistance’ for holiday parks if required

Brookfield Asset Management, the Canadian fund that owns Center Parcs, says it is prepared to prop up the holiday parks operator, if required, during the Covid-19 crisis.

Center Parcs has also announced it is extending the closure of its Irish facility in Co Longford.

Center Parcs hosted a conference call with bond investors on Tuesday, during which it outlined its liquidity position, including its ability to pay interest to noteholders while Britain and Ireland remain under effective lockdown.

Martin Dalby, the chief executive of the UK holiday park group, told investors that Longford Forest, which it had previously announced would close until March 29th, would now stay shuttered until Thursday, April 16th.

However, the news was subsequently overtaken later on Tuesday by the Government’s announcement of the extension of lockdown restrictions until Sunday, April 19th.

Coronavirus emergency sees Center Parcs (Ireland) close doors of Longford Forest

The Government's decision to roll out a nationwide emergency plan to combat the coronavirus fallout has prompted Center Parcs to follow suit by announcing the closure of its 395 acre Longford Forest until the end of the month.

In a statement released by the UK leisure firm on its Facebook page this afternoon, it said the move was taken in cognisance with the sudden escalation in attempts to keep a lid on the crisis.

Center Parcs on target for summer opening as FastHouse complete lodges scheme

IRELAND'S first-ever Center Parcs holiday complex is on target to open this summer - due in part to a major construction phase being completed by a Limavady firm.

FastHouse, part of the Kevin Lagan group of companies, has supplied and installed 466 timber lodge frames at the new 400-acre Longford Center Parcs, a €233 million investment which its owners claim will introduce a holiday experience never before seen in Ireland.

And just four months out from its opening, it has emerged that a number of Northern Ireland firms have secured lucrative supply contracts at the village.

Among them, Henderson Foodservice will be supplying the ambient food while the frozen food contract has been awarded to Lynas Foodservice in Coleraine.

Center Parcs Longford Forest will offer 466 lodges and 30 apartments to accommodate 2,500 guests.

The activity resort will provide guests with a choice of more than 100 indoor and outdoor family activities, including subtropical swimming paradise, along with an extensive range of restaurants, cafés and retail outlets.

During its construction phase Center Parcs Longford Forest has created 750 jobs, and once permanently established, it will provide a €32 million annual boost to the economy.

FastHouse, based on Downland Road in Limavady, was awarded the deal to build the lodges by Ireland's largest building company John Sisk & Son, the main contractor on the scheme.

An innovative manufacturer of modular timber frame systems, FastHouse has seen considerable growth since inception in 2016, and its workforce has risen substantially in response to increasing demand for its products, notably in the residential housing market.

Center Parcs Longford Forest development 'on time and on budget

...
Day two kicked off with a presentation from the general manager of the Central Parcs Longford forest, Mr Daragh Feighery, who gave attendees an update on the progress of the development in his presentation titled ‘Center Parcs Ireland - Delivering €200m Investment to Longford’.

Located on a 400-acre site approximately 5kms from Ballymahon, Center Parcs has been described as a premium brand experience for all of the family. The company behind the development was established in the UK over thirty years ago and the Ballymahon location is the maiden Irish venture from the team.

“We are very focused on delivering a high standard, premium brand experience.” said Daragh Feighery.

Daragh noted that the vast majority of their guests have historically been families, though they also cater for other group types. He also explained that the site will also stay open all-year round.

“We are not a seasonal offer. We are open 365 days of the year."

Daragh informed the crowd that Center Parc villages attract over two million visitors annually. Also, 95% of all guests said they intend to return to one of the villages at some point in the future. Center Parcs also have a 96% occupancy rate.

“The current villages attract over two million visitors per year, across the five villages...The annual turnover is just over €400 million,” said Daragh.

“All of our villages have received a four-star rating on tripadvisor and we have a 4.5 star rating on Facebook reviews...96% of guests rate their stay as excellent or good,”

Why Longford -

When choosing a location for the maiden Irish version of Center Parcs, Daragh said Longford was an obvious choice due to its prime location, transport links and the beauty of the site in Ballymahon.

Chemistry Launches New Campaign for Center Parcs Ahead of Summer Opening

With the Longford-based Center Parcs set to open its doors this Summer, Chemistry has launched a new campaign for the destination which is aimed at Irish families taking short breaks.

Chemistry worked closely with the Center Parcs team to create a campaign highlighting all the key features of a short break at Center Parcs and which draws on insight into Irish family life. The result, according to Chemistry, is a fun and beautifully shot 60” launch spot which captures  the combination of fun, excitement and downtime that a Center Parcs short break creates to make family time together truly unforgettable. The 60” spot launch spot is accompanied by two other 30” spots and each one is narrated from the point of view of the children in the family: a young boy of 10 and his toddler sister.

“The Center Parcs team were committed to developing a campaign built on strong local insight and it’s a campaign that I am very proud to have helped launch,” says Sinead Cosgrove, Head of Planning, Chemistry.

“We are very proud of this campaign and to be part of the team that launches this amazing brand into the Irish Market” adds Jennifer Monks, Account Director in Chemistry.

Colin Whaley, Sales and Marketing Director for Center Parcs, adds: “Center Parcs Longford Forest will be a wholly new type of short break family holiday in Ireland.  We’ve set out to create the perfect place for families who want to find the time and space to be together and do what they want to do.  And this is an all year round short break offer because of the amazing indoor and outdoor facilities and environment.  Only Longford will be able to offer 29.5 degrees in a tropical paradise all year round!  The challenge for Center Parcs Ireland was to create an advertising campaign that showed the quality and breadth of what the resort has to offer, but that also represented the fun and excitement families experience with us. What better way to show that than through the eyes of children on a short break holiday with their parents? Chemistry created a wonderful, cinematic campaign that does just that.”

The 60” spot first aired on TV and cinema on December 26th with both 30” spots going live this week

Center Parcs Longford holiday village gets €165m in funding

Forest resort may employ about 1,000 once completed and 750 during construction

The developers of the planned Center Parcs holiday village in the midlands have secured a €165 million debt facility from a group of banks led by Barclays.

The financing, also being provided by fellow UK-based lenders HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, will support the construction of a 500-lodge forest resort spread across 400 acres of woodland, including a glass-roofed swimming complex, restaurants, bars shops and a luxury spa.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar turned the sod in early September on the commencement of construction work at Centre Parcs Longford Forest in Ballymahon, which is expected to cost €233 million to develop and open within 18 months. Center Parcs, based in the UK, was acquired by Canadian investment company Brookfield Asset Management in June 2015 in a deal worth about £2.4 billion (€2.7 billion).

The new financing facility for the company’s first resort in Ireland “represents a key milestone for our project,” said Colin McKinlay, chief financial officer of Center Parcs. “We are looking forward to the next stage of the development and remain on track to open in the summer of 2019.”
