Center Parcs unveils new £3m Sherwood Forest spa

A treetop sauna will be the headline feature of the new-look luxury spa at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest after it underwent a £3m transformation.

The holiday village will unveil its revamped Aqua Sana, which has a new "Forest Spa" concept, to the public on Tuesday next week.

It is one of the highlights of a wider £15m investment programme at the Nottinghamshire resort over the past 12 months.

CEO Martin Dalby said: "The investment means we're really able to transform the look and feel of the Aqua Sana, and create some fantastic new experiences in the spa.

First half of FY 2016/17 is marked, for tourism businesses, by the shift in the Easter school holidays from Q2 to Q3 of the year (-€11 million in H1, offset by a catching-up effect in April) and, to a lesser extent, by the reduction in the network operated (- €4 million).

Group tourism performances have thus to be analysed on a like-for-like basis.

Plannen voor surfparadijs in Zeewolde

Een groot surfparadijs bij Eemhof Marina in Zeewolde, dat hopen de initiatiefnemers achter We Want Waves te realiseren.

Ze willen een zogenoemde wavepool aanleggen in het Eemmeer. Dat is een bak waarin hoge golven kunnen worden opgewekt om op te surfen. De techniek is bedacht in Spanje en is daar een groot succes, net zoals in Wales waar er ook al een is.

Voor het project is 10 miljoen euro nodig. De initiatiefnemers zeggen daarvoor al voldoende investeerders te hebben gevonden. Ze verwachten dat de schop in september 2018 de grond in gaat. De wavepool moet vervolgens in het voorjaar van 2019 af zijn.

Flinke investeringen in De Eemhof

Center Parcs bestaat deze week vijftig jaar. Voor de Eemhof in Zeewolde betekent dat vooruit kijken naar de volgende vijftig. Het vakantiepark gaat daarom de komende jaren flink investeren in het park.

Volgens general manager Jordy Tabor van De Eemhof is een park waar alleen een zwembad is niet voldoende voor gasten. Het park gaat daarom investeren in nieuwe activiteiten. Onlangs is er een ''high adventure experience'' geopend. ''Dat is een parcours waar je door de boomtoppen kan klimmen''. Daarnaast komt er binnenkort op De Eemhof een escape room.

Bij de nieuwe investeringen wordt met name gekeken naar luxe. Mensen die meer te besteden hebben weten de Eemhof te vinden. Het park springt daar op in door een twintigtal nieuwe cottages neer zetten. Dit zijn ruimere huizen met standaard een bubblebad en wellness. Tabor hoopt met een paar jaar alle investeringen te hebben gerealiseerd.

Volgende Week: Retropop

Volgende week is het zover: Op zaterdag 10 juni is het alweer zover: de 16e editie van Retropop! Net als voorgaande jaren zal dit event plaatsvinden op het festivalterrein aan De Grote Rietplas in Emmen. Dit terrein biedt plaats aan duizenden muziekliefhebbers.

Retropop is een jaarlijks muziekfestival in Emmen in de Nederlandse provincie Drenthe. Het festival duurt één dag en beschikt over maar liefst vier podia. Op het hoofdpodium spelen originele bands uit de jaren 70, 80 en 90. Op de Nederpopstage spelen originele Nederlandse bands uit de jaren 70, 80 en 90. Ook er is een Discotent met DJ’s.

Center Parcs gaat parken bouwen in Peking en Shanghai

Center Parcs wil tien vakantieparken gaan bouwen in China. De eerste stappen buiten Europa door het bedrijf worden gezet in Peking en Shanghai, waar in 2019 de eerste twee parken moeten worden geopend.

Topman Mark Haak Wegmann zegt woensdag in gesprek met De Telegraaf dat het bedrijf, dat onderdeel is van de Franse groep Pierre & Vacances-Center Parcs, een miljard euro heeft gereserveerd voor uitbreiding en verbouwing.

Dat geld gaat ook deels naar nieuwe parken in Europa, onder meer bij Disneyland Parijs en in Zuid-Duitsland en in België.

Volgens Haak Wegmann is er in China behoefte aan een plek om "gezellig samen een paar dagen eruit zijn". Zijn bedrijf zou samenwerken met een Chinese investeringsmaatschappij die ook aandelen bezit in de Franse moedermaatschappij.

Your summer 2017 inspiration starts here

It’s coming up to that time of year again. The time to set your out-of-office, hang up the school bags until September (just remember to check for old lunch boxes and apple cores first), and load up the car for your family summer break.

This year, why bother with the hassle of passports and the pain of the airport, when everything you could possibly want is waiting for you at Center Parcs? With the sun shining and the lake glistening, you’re a world away from home with plenty to keep the whole family occupied.

It’s time to swap your ‘to do’ list for our ‘must do’ list.

Saddle up

So where to begin? First things first – swing by the Cycle Centre to pick up your family fleet. Hit the trails in comfort with top-of-the-line premium mountain bikes at all our villages, or cruise with ease on one of our assisted electric bikes. There are trailers, child seats, balance bikes and stabilisers for our littlest cyclists too.

Then you’re off, exploring the forest on two wheels, soaking up the sun as the squirrels scamper alongside you.

Make a splash

But what’s a family summer break without a dip in the pool? It’s next up on your ‘must do’ list. Grab your swimming costume (or pop to Aquatique to treat yourself to something new), and step into the Subtropical Swimming Paradise. The little ones can splash around in our toddler and children’s pools, while older ones play in the waves and you relax with a Starbucks or a cocktail from The Canopy Café and Bar. Of course, watching from the sidelines only lasts so long before it’s time to corral the whole family for a ride down the Wild Water Rapids.

Row your boat

If you’re still not in the mood for dry land, it’s time to take to the lake. Try Stand Up Paddle Boarding or, if you’re staying at Elveden Forest, have a go at Water Cable Skiing – tick something off your summer 2017 bucket list! And if there are little ones in your party, you can hire a Pedalo together, or sit back and relax in an Electric Boat.

Drop in at The Pancake House to refuel after all that hard work. A fluffy American stack and an ice cold gourmet milkshake always go down a treat after a swim.

Take to the treetops

And you’ll need a good meal before you tackle Action Challenge… Head up into the treetops and find your head for heights with Aerial Adventure, where you navigate our course in the canopy. Of course, heights aren’t for everyone, so if you prefer to stay more grounded you can make a beeline for the Outdoor Activity Centre and hop on a Quadbike, zoom around the village with Segway Experience, or see who comes out on top at Paintballing.

Come dine with us

At the end of the day, race back to your lodge and collapse en-masse onto the comfy sofas. And when stomachs start rumbling, there’s a world of possibilities to choose from – head to Café Rouge and take a table on the terrace to enjoy a family meal as the sun goes down. Or you could fire up the barbecue on your private terrace – everything you could need, from steaks to giant marshmallows, can be found at the ParcMarket. Or if you’re simply too tuckered out, treat yourselves and order Dining In – we’ll deliver freshly prepared, restaurant-quality food to your lodge.

Summer holidays should be about escaping the daily grind and revelling in each other’s company. This year, why not do it at Center Parcs?
