Binnenkort bestaat Center Parcs 50 jaar.

Beeldmerk ondersteunt Corporate Identity

  • Kwaliteit
  • Alles kan, niets moet
Kortom: de eigen Center Parcs-lifestyle

Natuurgeheimen: Passen vogels op hun eigen kids? Of gaan ze naar een creche?

Fears that children at Center Parcs could see online porn: Holiday village offers no filters on its free wi-fi network

  • Campaigners say children at Center Parcs risk being exposed to porn
  • Comes as holiday village does not apply filters on its free wifi network
  • Alarm was raised after one mother found her son watching online porn
  • Family had been on holiday at the Center Parcs site in Nottinghamshire
Children staying at Center Parcs are at risk of being exposed to hardcore online porn, campaigners warned last night.
The holiday village – popular with tens of thousands of families – applies no filters on its free wi-fi network, meaning youngsters can easily stumble across adult images and videos on devices.
The alarm was raised after one mother, visiting the Sherwood Forest site in Nottinghamshire, reportedly told campaigners she discovered her son watching porn on his tablet.

Center Parcs admits that it has no wi-fi filters at any of its five UK sites – and said it was up to parents to install filters on devices.
The Daily Mail has campaigned to make it easier for parents to put a block on online porn in their own home.
Thousands of businesses, including Starbucks, McDonald's, John Lewis and Waterstones, have also signed up to a 'friendly wi-fi' scheme under which a filter is installed.

John Carr, secretary of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety, said he was shocked to find that Center Parcs, which markets itself heavily as being a family-friendly company, was not playing its part in keeping children safe online.

Sensational summer rolls with peanut dipping sauce

On days like this, there’s less than zero chance that I’ll be turning on the oven. Vietnamese summer rolls are perfect: purely an assembly job, they’re pretty, fresh, healthy and light. The translucent rice wrappers mean you can see the fillings, so I love finding interesting colour combinations as well as flavour contrasts.

With no cooking involved, you can serve up a platter of rolls as nibbles or a starter, or get all your ingredients ready and have your family or guests create their own.

The peanut and hoisin dipping sauce takes just seconds to make and is incredible moreish.

Top tip: we made a few fruity rolls too, which would be fabulous dipped in melted chocolate.

Ingredients

1 pack of Vietnamese rice paper rolls (you can buy kits in supermarkets which often include a pre-made dipping sauce, or get the papers from an oriental supermarket)
1 pack of vermicelli rice noodles
Fresh mint, coriander and basil leaves

Savoury fillings
Avocado, sliced
Red cabbage, thinly sliced
Carrot, thinly sliced
Cucumber, thinly sliced
Cooked edamame beans
Shredded cooked chicken
Cooked tiger prawns

Fruit fillings
Strawberries
Blueberries
Kiwi, sliced
Dragon fruit
Pomegranate seeds
Banana, sliced

Dipping sauce
2 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp Sriracha or sweet chilli sauce
A squeeze of lime
2 tsp garlic oil
1 tsp sesame oil
A little hot water to get the right consistency

Method

1 Get all your fillings chopped, sliced and ready

2 Soak the vermicelli rice noodles in a bowl of boiling water for four minutes

3 Dip one rice paper sheet into a bowl of warm water for a few seconds, shake off excess water and place on a chopping board

4 Place your chosen fillings in a row in the centre of the paper – layer up with protein, lettuce, herbs, vegetables and a few noodles

5 Fold the base (the side closest to you) of the paper over the parcel

6 Fold the sides in then roll up and turn over to hold it together

7 For the sauce, combine all your ingredients in a bowl and whisk together with a fork. Add hot water, a splash at a time, until you have the perfect dipping consistency

These are dairy and gluten-free, and can easily be made vegetarian or vegan depending on your choice of fillings.

Natuurgeheimen: Hoe wordt een pony geboren?

The great frog migration

We might expect that frogs at Center Parcs make their home in our many lakes, streams and ponds. But these little amphibians spend most of their adult life in sheltered spots around the forest. If your primary school science lessons were a little while ago, here’s a quick reminder of the lifecycle of a frog…

1. Born as frogspawn (or toadspawn) in water

2. Metamorphose into tadpoles and learn to swim

3. Metamorphose again into tiny frogs

4. As tiny frogs, they leave their watery home and migrate to dry (but damp) land

5. Once old enough to breed, they head back to the water to mate and lay their own frogspawn

This means lots of frog activity on our Villages, and summer is the time when tiny frogs make their first big journey out of the water. At Woburn Forest, this Great Frog Migration has just taken place, meaning hundreds of little frogs suddenly – almost overnight – appeared around the Village as they searched for their new home. Ranger Lucie Vicentijevic was on hand with a box to make sure they all made the journey safely.

Lucie, you’ve just spent the day rescuing tiny frogs… This is an annual occurrence?

It happens every year, but we never really know when as it’s all down to what the weather was like over winter. A mild winter will mean babies are born early, while a cold snap may hold the adults off from breeding. This affects when the babies are born and therefore when they’re old enough to migrate. So we just wait and see when they appear.

Why do they all move at the same time?

The young all grow up together in the same ponds, and moving as a group offers them some safety from predators. How exactly they all decided to go is a bit of a mystery, but it’s likely that a cool, damp night is the perfect opportunity. It’s amazing to think their natural instinct drives them all at the same time.

What part do you and your team play?

On their way from the ponds to their new home in the woodland, the tiny frogs get into places where they can become trapped. So Ranger James and I spent the day going all around the Village, rescuing baby frogs and releasing them into the wet woodland.

And what’s next for the froglets?

Now they’ll stay in the damp undergrowth until they’ve matured and are ready to breed, at which point they’ll make their way back to the water again.

What should our guests do if they spot any tiny frogs?

My best advice is to leave them alone. They’re so delicate when they’re this small and they will probably find their way to where they ought to be. But if they’re clearly trapped or in immediate danger of being squashed, it’s ok to move them somewhere quieter and safer. Just be very careful when you handle them and wash your hands immediately afterwards.

What do frogs mean for Woburn Forest?

It’s great to see a healthy population of frogs and toads here. Our main lake, Village Square ponds and Nature Pond weren’t here before Center Parcs was built, so this is a new development. Seeing successful breeding and good numbers over successive generations means we’ve created – and are maintaining – a valuable habitat.

You can learn more about migrating frogs and what to do to help frogs and toads in your garden here.

overzicht, visvergunning, vispas, vissoorten, boot huren

Sherwood Forest goes above and beyond to surprise loyal guest

Shona Ramshall has made numerous visits to Center Parcs over the years however, on a return visit earlier this year a special surprise was waiting for her at Sherwood Forest. When we heard Shona’s story we loved it that much, we just had to share it.

A loyal guest

Shona has been a guest of Center Parcs for the past 18 years and has travelled far and wide, in summer and winter, to visit our Center Parcs Villages. Whether Shona is visiting with family or friends, what excites Shona the most about her breaks is the wildlife she sees. “Center Parcs is my haven”, says Shona. She enjoys her time at Center Parcs that much that last year, in the space of six months, she visited Center Parcs Sherwood Forest three times.

A day in the life of…

During a break at Sherwood Forest earlier this year, she came into contact with Annemarie Boddy, the assistant manager at Leisure Bowl. Shona told us that after chatting to Annemarie and getting to know one another, the two exchanged emails and kept in touch. Shona’s next break at Sherwood Forest was to be in May 2016 and, unbeknown to Shona, Annemarie had a special surprise in store for Shona’s next Center Parcs break.

“The customer service at Sherwood is phenomenal and Annemarie is a perfect example” Shona says.

So what was Shona’s surprise, I hear you ask! Annemarie, with the help of our Sherwood Forest Conservation Ranger Kev Gustard, organised a special day for Shona that any wildlife enthusiast would love. Shona was given the opportunity to experience a day in the life of our rangers. She spent her day helping Kev and other rangers with the tagging of baby birds, which is an important part of wildlife conservation and for Shona, who is an avid birdwatcher, this was the perfect day out.

The tagging of birds at Center Parcs allows ours rangers to monitor the birds and collect information which helps with their conservation work. A small, light-weight band is carefully placed around the birds leg which helps our rangers identify each bird.

Last summer when we were invited to join Kev with the tagging of baby birds, he reassured us that the belief that touching baby birds can cause the mother to abandon her chicks due to human scent is incorrect. He went on to explain that we do leave some human scent but the birds sense of smell is underdeveloped compared to ours and it does not affect the parent’s behaviour towards the chicks once they return.

Part of Shona’s day involved spending one-to-one time with our rangers, ringing barn owls and baby treecreepers, which Shona described as “amazing”. Later, along with the help of little ones who were visiting the Nature Centre, Shona helped Kev with the tagging of another bird species, the great tits.

Shona told us: “I love visiting the Nature Centre and bird hide at Sherwood Forest; the staff are so knowledgeable and the Nature Centre is a fantastic place letting little ones get involved with nature.”

Talking of her exciting surprise, Shona said that she felt like a “princess for the day” and that she was very grateful for the opportunity that was given to her, saying that “all involved went above and beyond what they needed to do”.

“This was my favourite day in the past 18 years of visiting Center Parcs” Shona said.

As a returning guest of Center Parcs, Shona enjoys being surrounded by spectacular wildlife whilst spending time relaxing with her friends and family. She says: “From booking to all the way through your break, it’s just fantastic.” Shona also added “you can tell that it’s not just a job for the staff.”

As a loyal guest of Center Parcs, and with a few new friends to say hello to on her return, Shona already has her next break at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest booked!

Take a look inside the Las Iguanas menu

We’re counting down the days to the opening of Las Iguanas at Longleat Forest this autumn. So whilst we wait, we’ve created our perfect Las Iguanas dining experience from starters to dessert including a few after-dinner drink options to celebrate your break.

A little taste of Latin America

Starting off our Las Iguanas ‘try me’ list are two incredible starters that are sure to get your taste buds tingling.

A new addition to the Las Iguanas menu is their take on the Brazilian classic, Dadinhos. A perfect dish to take away the hunger whilst you wait for your main, this starter consists of crispy, cheesy cubes served with a chilli jam for that hint of spice.

Pato Taquito is a dish consisting of a chargrilled tortilla filled with roast duck and caramelised onion with a side of fiery cranberry salsa to dip. Yes please!

Fiery mains

Now you’ve got a preview of the menu with the scrumptious starters, explore a wide range of smoky and spicy Latin American mains. Here’s just a glimpse of what we’re craving to try.

Picanha is a popular choice in Brazil and a popular choice for us when we set our eyes on the menu. An 8oz rump steak served with molho à campanha salsa, a tomato salsa traditionally served with grilled meats in Latin America. Choose from either a mix of sweet potato and cassava fries, sweet potato mash or for a lighter option, salad and chipotle butter or fresh herb chimichurri.

Our favourite vegetarian dish from the Las Iguanas menu is the Halloumi Churrasco Skewers. A mix of fiery flavours, the dish combines flame-grilled honey-glazed halloumi, beetroot, artichoke, red onion and red pepper to create the ultimate skewers. Served with honey peri-peri sauce, salad and your choice of cassava fries or sweet potato mash.

Added extras

If you’re looking for something to compliment your main then Las Iguanas offers an exciting selection of delicious sides.

Patatas bravas in bits is described by Las Iguanas as spicy spuds on sticks. The spicy spuds are served with a smoky chipotle sauce and creamy aioli. The perfect option for those who love that extra kick.

If you’ve made the shift from potato fries to sweet potatoes fries, it’s now time to try Cassava fries. Made from manioc root, this tasty alternative is served with homemade tomato salsa; the perfect accompaniment to any Las Iguanas dish.

A sweet treat

My favourite part of any meal is dessert. The Las Iguanas menu caters for all types of dessert lovers, whether you’re a chocoholic or wanting a refreshing after-dinner treat.

What better way to end a meal than with an all-time favourite and classic go-to dessert, Churros? Choose from either three or six cinnamon-sugar sprinkled churros, served with a choice of delicious chocolate ganache or sweet dulce de leche.

Tembleque is the perfect choice of dessert after a fiery flavoured main. This classic Puerto Rican dessert is a creamy coconut pudding served with a fruity selection of mixed berries and mango purée.

Join the carnival with a cocktail…or two

Enjoy the taste of Rio with an extensive list of classic and crazy cocktails. Why stop at one when you could enjoy happy hour and get two for the same price?

Simply because we love the name, the Hombre Bombre cocktail is our first choice to raise a glass and celebrate our Center Parcs break. Hombre Bombre is a mix of Chivas Regal, Las Iguanas Magnifica cachaça, fruity pineapple juice and ginger syrup.

If that sounds intimidating, don’t fret, the selection of cocktails at Las Iguanas includes all your favourite classics and we’ve chosen the Long Island Iced Tea for a refreshing drink. Served by the glass or by pitcher, enjoy the mix of vodka, Havana club Especial rum, Beefeater gin, Olmeca, tequila, triple sec, lemon juice and coke.

Now that we’ve teased you with what you can expect from Las Iguanas at Longleat Forest, we hope you are just as excited as we are for the grand opening in October.
