Recipe: Watermelon Gin Slush

If you’re spending World Gin Day at Center Parcs, why not treat yourself to a glass of gin at Sports Café or Leisure Bowl? The When in Rome Spa Day at Aqua Sana also includes a delicious gin cocktail and the ParcMarket stocks a great variety of gins.

If you are at home and feeling particularly fancy, why not try this Watermelon Gin Slush? You can make an extra layer of green lime or mint slush to add to the top, but it’s just delicious (and very pretty) without.

Make some in advance and keep in the freezer for watermelon based emergencies. You never know when that might happen…

Ingredients – serves 2

1/2 small watermelon – peeled and cubed (about 750g)
2 Shots of gin – 60ml
2 Shots of lime cordial – 60ml
A splash of soda or lemonade

Method

1 Blend up the cubed watermelon
2 Pour through a sieve
3 Stir in the lime cordial
4 Add the gin (optional)
5 Pour into a baking dish and freeze for 2 hours
6 Put two tall glasses in the freezer to make them frosty
7 Scrape the watermelon ice with a fork and add the pink slush to your frosted glasses
8 Top up with a little soda or lemonade to taste

Green topped slushy
Make a small tray of ice with lime cordial, soda and some green food colouring. You can also add chopped mint leaves. Freeze for 1-2 hours, stirring with a fork occasionally. Scrape into green slush with a fork and add to the top of your watermelon cocktail.

Tip
After freezing and shaving the watermelon ice you can keep it in a ziplock bag for when you need it.

The Center Parcs forests are spectacular all year round, but we can’t deny that some of our activities really shine in the height of summer. There is nothing quite like cruising around the lake while the water sparkles or building and defending your own fortress in the forest in the glorious sunshine.

So here are our top picks for activities to try during your summer break this year – plus a few wet weather ideas in case it all doesn’t go to plan.

Take to the lake

When the sun is out, without a doubt the lake is the place to be. With something for everyone, you can have hours of fun in the sun. If you fancy something adrenaline fuelled, gather your friends and family for AquaParc. An obstacle course on water, jump, slash and climb your way through beams, bubbles and slides to find your way to the end. Available at Longleat Forest now and Sherwood Forest and Elveden Forest from the 19 July 2019.

If you still want a bit of action but prefer watersports with less of a chance of taking a dip, hire a Kayak and take in laps of the lake at your own pace.

Or if action-packed isn’t your style, hire one of our Electric Boats for a more leisurely pace. With all the hard work taken away, sail in comfort and take in the best views of the village.

Action-packed adventures

With up to 400 acres of the forest to explore on your break get involved in our activities within nature. Get competitive with our Forest Fortress Den Build activity, using only natural resources race against the clock to build a fortress while defending your team flag and attacking the oppositions fortress, and see who can raise their flag first to win. Available at Sherwood Forest and Woburn Forest from the 19 July 2019.

Or for something more exhilarating head to our Outdoor Activity Centre. Deep in the forest, with unique activities, why not try Quad Biking or Junior Quads for your little ones. Get to grips with your quad bikes and then test out your new-found skills on our purpose-built track, not available at Woburn Forest.

Save it for a rainy day

When the British weather doesn’t go to plan, it doesn’t mean all the fun has to stop at Center Parcs. Take a trip to the Pottery Painting Studio whatever the weather, choose from a wide range of pottery and let your creativity run wild with the help of our brushes and paints. Once you’re finished, we’ll professionally fire and glaze it for you to take home as a memento.

For something more active at Elveden Forest and Whinfell Forest, try your hand at our new games of squash, but with a twist. For your older ones suitable for all abilities, get competitive with Interactive Squash, with a variety of games available from tic tac to block squash and see who comes out on top.

Or bring your little ones to play a game of Family Ball Wall, with softballs kick or throw the targets on our interactive walls to see can get the personal best.

Onverwacht, maar wel bijzonder leuk? In de Secrets of Center Parcs videoserie volgen we familie Wit die de verrassende kant van Center Parcs gaat ontdekken.  In de vier afleveringen gaan vader Bas, moeder Linda en de kinderen Teun, Isa en Skye op zoek naar quality time, adrenaline boosts, lekker eten en drinken en leuke kinderactiviteiten.




Eén groot avontuur voor de kinderen

• In de thema cottages in Les Trois Forêts (F) beleef je nog ’s wat! Kies je voor de Avontuur cottage, de Dieren in het Bos cottage of de Koninkrijk der Sprookjes cottage?  
• Niet echt, maar het voelt wel zo! Zet een Virtual Reality-bril op en je maakt een ballonvaart of je wiebelt over een gevaarlijke brug (in De Kempervennen).
• Ouders vs. kinderen: wie wint het potje Family Paintball? Er zijn buitenarena’s (De Eemhof) en indoor-strijdtonelen (Het Heijderbos).
• Doktersvissen, zwartpuntrifhaaien… Je komt ze zomaar tegen als je rond snorkelt in het Leven in Zee-bad in De Kempervennen, dat samen met het Wereld Natuur Fonds is opgezet.
• Geocachen is een spannende GPS-speurtocht door de natuur. Leuk om de omgeving van het park te verkennen!

Tropische kolos onderweg naar Zeewolde

Hij is zes meter hoog, 2.500 kilo zwaar. Zijn leeftijd? Geschat wordt: 250 jaar. De Cordyline australis, een tropische plant, is van Hortus botanicus Leiden onderweg naar Center Parcs De Eemhof in Zeewolde. Daar krijgt de tropische kolos meer ruimte.

De reusachtige plant wordt met een vrachtwagen vanuit Leiden vervoerd naar Zeewolde. Bij het vakantiepark is hulp door de lucht nodig. Vanwege de gebouwen van Center Parcs kan de truck het plein niet bereiken, waarop de gigant komt te staan. Een hoge hijskraan takelt de plant over de gebouwen op zijn plaats.

Recipe: Quick Choc & Nut Biscuits

If you ever get a craving for a biscuit or a gooey chocolate chip cookie, here’s a recipe that can get you to a warm, melt in the middle treat in 30 minutes flat. We like to sprinkle these with a few salt crystals to balance the sweetness.

There no creaming or melting of butter required, just a little bit of stirring and baking. Perfect for when the biscuit cupboard is bare.

When you scoop spoonfuls of the cookie dough onto the baking tray the biscuity balls look like scoops of chocolate ice cream and this is what gave us the idea to take these biscuits up a notch and make them into ice cream sandwiches.

Just scoop a spoonful of ice cream in-between two cookies and squidge! Get extra fancy by rolling them in ‘hundreds and thousands’ for extra crunch. You can make your ice cream sandwiches an hour or so in advance and pop them in the freezer for pudding.

Ingredients (makes approx 14)

210g Nutella
65g Peanut (or another nut) Butter
90g Sugar
1 Egg
A Pinch of Salt
2.5 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
75g Chocolate Chips
60g Plain Flour
1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
Maldon Salt Crystals (optional) for sprinkling
Add Ice cream and hundreds and thousands to make an ice cream sandwich

Method

1. Mix together the Nutella, peanut butter, sugar, egg and salt until smooth.
2. Add the flour, cocoa, choc chips and bicarb and combine well.
3. Place in the fridge for 10 minutes.
4. Preheat the oven to 175ºC
5. Line two baking sheets with baking parchment
6. Use a measuring spoon to scoop rounded tablespoons of the cookie dough onto the trays, well spaced apart
7. Sprinkle with a little Maldon Salt if you like that salty/sweet thing
8. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until the tops are crackled
9. Cool on the tray for 10 minutes to allow them to set before you cool on a rack

Nog 1 maand: nieuwe Action Factory in Les Ardennes

Goed nieuws voor alle kleine en grote avonturiers die hun energie kwijt willen: in Les Ardennes (B) opent 28 juni de gloednieuwe Action Factory haar deuren. Dus iPads aan de kant, speelkleren aan, en met z’n allen op naar het overdekte actieparadijs!

Binnenstebuiten avontuur in de Action Factory
Zo bosrijk als het park buiten is, zo groen wordt de uitstraling binnen in de Action Factory van Les Ardennes. Overal vind je het ‘bos met dieren’-thema terug. Van de holes op de Interactieve Minigolf-baan tot het restaurant waar je lekker wat kunt eten en drinken. Maar eerst willen we wat zweetdruppeltjes op je voorhoofd zien!

Je ziet het meteen als je rondkijkt in de Action Factory: elke activiteit straalt ‘natuur’ uit. Maar je bent hier niet om te kijken, je wil dingen doen!

Waterparcours bij Center Parcs De Vossemeren beter dan WipeOut

Keek je vroeger vaak WipeOut? En droomde je er dan van om zelf mee te doen en de obstakels te overwinnen als een echte eindbaas? Check dan het waterparcours bij Center Parcs De Vossemeren. WipeOut 2.0!

Volgens de vakantieparkenketen (wat een woord) is het waterparcours bij Center Parcs De Vossemeren één van de grootste drijvende obstakelparcours van Europa. De opblaasbare baan bestaat uit meer dan 100 onderdelen en beslaat 4000 vierkante meter. Ja, écht.

Wil je ‘m van A tot Z afwerken, dan ben je zeker een uur zoet. Een uur keihard kapotgaan, noemen ze dat in straatjargon. Je moet er wel voor afdalen naar België én je moet je vooraf inschrijven. Vol is vol, dus wees er snel bij.

Nieuwe Center Parcs, Landal of Roompot bij Enschede?

Enschede krijgt groot bungalowpark bij het Rutbeek: bouw begint in 2021

Binnen afzienbare tijd wordt begonnen met de aanleg van een groot bungalowpark aan de oostkant van het Rutbeek. Er komen 250 vakantiehuisjes op het park en een centraal gebouw met onder meer een restaurant.

Welke grote naam zich aan het project verbindt, is nog niet bekend, maar er wordt gesproken met de 'grote vier', aldus de gemeente: Landal, Hogenboom, Roompot en Center Parcs.  De bouw begint als de procedures zijn afgerond, iets dat waarschijnlijk eind volgend jaar het geval is.

Luxe
Het plan voor het park stamt al uit de jaren 90, maar er was een update nodig: oorspronkelijk was sprake van bijna 300 huisjes, nu zijn het er 250. De inkrimping is nodig om meer luxe mogelijk te maken. „Tegenwoordig hebben mensen behoefte aan iets grotere huisjes", aldus wethouder Arjan Kampman, die het plan omschrijft als 'een fantastisch iets'. Bovendien zorgt zowel de bouw als het park zelf voor werkgelegenheid. Als het enorme bouwproject eenmaal klaar is, zijn er naar schatting 100  tot 150 mensen nodig voor de dagelijkse werkzaamheden. „Vooral voor praktisch geschoold personeel is hier veel werk", zegt Kampman.
