40 new apartments and a zipline in plans for Center Parcs

New apartments and a zipline will add to the facilities at the Center Parcs resort in Nottinghamshire.

The Sherwood Forest Center Parcs near Rufford was the first site of the holiday village giant to open in the UK, in 1987, and covers more than 400 acres of forest.

Since then, around 500,000 indigenous trees have been planted, along with 30 acres of lakes, streams and ponds.

A range of improvements will be made to the site after plans were approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council on Friday, 15 May.

Managers at the holiday park company say the changes will take place between 2026 and 2027.

The most notable aspect of the plans involves tearing down older former office buildings to more than triple the number of holiday apartments.

The existing two buildings, which are set to be demolished and relate to units 910 to 920, currently contain 11 ‘executive’ apartments featuring one and two bedrooms.

The buildings were originally Center Parcs’ head offices before they were internally converted into the current apartments. These will be demolished to make way for a new three-storey apartment block containing 48 apartments in total.

This will include eight two-bedroom apartments, 38 one-bedroom apartments, and two accessible one-bedroom apartments.

A new, small aerial ‘Zipzag’ zipline ‘rollercoaster’ can now be built near the lake in the centre of the holiday park following wider plan approval.
